For years now Optimists have extended their commitment to young people by starting New Optimist Clubs. The Noon Optimist Club has been involved in this process several times. In fact, this club was built by the Houston Downtown Club in 1940. Since then, our club built the Dickinson Club in 1954 and more recently Duane Ullman was club building chairman for a new Winnie-Stowell Noon Optimist Club in in 1984. We have currently set goals to build clubs in three communities in the near future.
We realize that with these new clubs, we can help bring together new groups of volunteers who focus on youth development and thereby help improve an entire community. Our local club benefits also benefit from the New Club process, which sharpens leadership skills, increases fellowship, and strengthens personal development. New club building chairpersons Carol Hodges, Bill McGarvey and Duane Ullman are recently involved in helping establish clubs in Bay City, Texas City/La Marque, and Dickinson respectively.
The Optimist Club of Dickinson is officially organized on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Sixteen of the twenty-six charter members signed and paid were present to make it official. Field representative Gene Pipes coordinated the necessary matters of business to meet all the OI requirements to officially organize the new club.
The Mainland-Texas City new club was officially brought in on August 7th, 2010. Optimist International official Gene Pipes served as Field Representative. Builders of Excellence are Galveston Noon Optimists James Rankin and William McGarvey. There are 27 charter members.
We continue to reach out with with this traditional method of building clubs in neighboring communities. This has been field tested and proves to be the best procedure for new Optimist Club Building all these years. Optimist International has does provide guidelines and advice for helping new club building succeed. Also Optimist International and Optimist Districts leaders with expertise to assist in the process as the need arises. The Noon Optimist Club looks forward in the successful establishing of these new clubs and spreading Optimism.
